Welcome to the Ninth Court of Appeals

Beaumont, Texas

New!  Effective March 12, 2012, the Ninth Court of Appeals is accepting electronic filings for Clerk's Records and Reporter's Records. E-filing is the Court's required method for filing Reporter's Records and the preferred method for filing Clerk's Records. For further instructions, please refer to the Local Rules [pdf] under Practice Before the Court.

No other documents can be e-filed at this time and must continue to comply with Rule 9 and Rule 38 of the Texas Rules of Appellate Procedure. Electronic filing of other documents will be implemented by our Court later this year.

The Ninth Court of Appeals serves the Beaumont, Texas area. The Court was created by the legislature in 1915 and currently has jurisdiction over cases in ten counties (listed below). The justices on the Court are Chief Justice Steve McKeithen, Justice David Gaultney, Justice Charles Kreger, and Justice Hollis Horton.

The Legislature has divided the State into fourteen courts of appeals districts. Each court has at least three justices — a chief justice and two justices. There are now eighty justices serving on the fourteen courts of appeals. Effective January 1, 2005, the 78th Legislature increased the number of justices on the Ninth Court of Appeals from three to four.
