David Gaultney was elected as Justice of the Ninth Court of Appeals in 2000, and was elected to a second term in 2006. He has a Bachelor of Arts degree with highest honors from Southwest Texas State University, a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree with honors from the University of Texas School of Law, and a Master of Laws degree from the University of Houston College of Law. He is board certified by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in Civil Appellate Law, Civil Trial Law, and Personal Injury Trial Law. Justice Gaultney obtained a Certificate of Special Competence in the field of Appellate Jurisprudence from the Texas College for Judicial Studies. He was commissioned by the Governor to serve as a Justice of the Supreme Court of Texas in the case of Sultan v. Mathew, and in the case of In re B.P. Products North America in which he delivered the unanimous opinion of the Court. He is a Life Fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation. Justice Gaultney serves as a member of the Texas Supreme Court Advisory Committee, and as a member of the State Commission on Judicial Conduct.
